Lucy is one of the most gentle and easy-going horses in our program. While the majority of our horses are mustangs, Lucy is a Quarter Horse and happens to be the daughter of our other horse, Jozee. She was born May 2, 2005 at Dena and Ray Barmore’s ranch in Pinyon, California.

Similar to her mom, Lucy was given a “registered name” of Montananics Boldchic. Horses are often given flashy registered names which are used to grab your attention in show arenas. Her sire (the father of a horse) is Mister Montana Nic, a world champion reining horse and a son of 2 world champion reining horses. In her youth, Lucy was nominated for the Reining Horse Futurity, a prestigious competition for reining horses. However,  just like Jozee, Lucy never went into the show ring.

Instead, Lucy went to work in the real world. She spent many hours on the trail patrolling with the Forest Service and leading pack strings. Unlike Jozee, Lucy was never too keen on cattle.  Instead, she much preferred the company of cats. Starting from when she was a foal, Lucy showed her gentle, sweet nature by befriending a kitty and she has loved cats ever since.

Lucy now spends her days working with veterans. Her low energy and quiet personality makes her very approachable. She is the perfect horse to introduce to veterans who have little to no experience around horses. She’s a very laid-back horse and is content to just cruise along at the end of the line on a trail ride, grabbing bites of grass if you are not paying attention. She doesn’t do much wrong, which makes her a perfect horse for a more timid rider and handler.
