We believe that animals are our greatest responsibility and our greatest reward. We believe there is a home for every cat and dog that has been neglected, abandoned or abused. And it’s why we won’t give up on a single one.
Our Founder. Emily Jo Beard had a vision – to create a sanctuary where abandoned, abused and neglected animals would be safely housed, cage free, until they could find a loving home. She believed…
Our Mission. We rescue, rehabilitate and find permanent homes for healthy cats and dogs that were scheduled for imminent euthanasia at local shelters.
Our History. For thousands of years, our site was home to the Cahuilla Indians who left behind archaeological evidence in the many morteros and petroglyphs that can be found on the property. We have taken steps…
The people of Living Free
Our staff and volunteers work tirelessly to rescue animals that would otherwise not survive, often only being acknowledged with a quiet purr or a sloppy wet kiss on the cheek. And quite often, that’s enough.
What our visitors are saying
The hands-down best animal rescue I have ever witnessed. The facility, the staff, the location is outstanding. The conditions in which the animals live is nothing less than outstanding; clean, comfortable and spacious. ABSOLUTELY love this place. Thank you Living Free for provide such a wonderful sanctuary for our furry, little friends!
Had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful animal sanctuary today. I was so impressed!
The work done here is amazing. The animals are indeed lucky to be able to stay here until they are adopted and some end up staying their whole lives. If you are looking for a new furry friend, you should pay them a visit!
Hi, had the pleasure of visiting and touring your wonderful facilities yesterday! What a beautiful place, both in majestic vistas of the mountain and the loving care provided to all animals. My wife and I were impressed with the caliber of the facilities and the compassion of the staff.
We adopted Mr. Wilson (formerly Winston), our Corgi/Terrier mix from Living Free two years ago. He has brought SO much laughter and joy into our lives. We love him and thank the people of Living Free for their continued determination to find homes for these animals.
It was a beautiful adoption day and everything went smoothly. I got tearful when they rang the bell announcing to the complex that he had found his forever home!
This establishment is amazing! We were visiting from Minnesota and were told to go take a tour, we were not disappointed. Not only did they give us a tour for free (we left a donation of course 😊), but they were filled with lots of interesting information about the history of the property and the foundation as well.
Our daughter was so excited to see all the animals up for adoption and get to hang out in the Cattery for a while, too. All of the volunteers were awesome and the facility itself was immaculate! We will be back again when we get back out to CA, in the meantime, we’ll be offering our support! Thank you!
We just adopted a dog from Living Free Animal Sanctuary today. They are an amazing outfit with great facilities. She has fit into our household immediately. Thanks many times over!
Amazing place! We went to adopt a cat and ended up with a kitten. Ms. Mabel (formerly Sophia) is so much fun. The cattery is so cool. If we adopt again, would definitely do it through Living Free. Great job to everyone who works & volunteers there!
Wonderful, caring, ethical group! Thank you for the low-cost spay/neuter services you provide and everything else you do.
