Visit Us in Mountain Center, California

Adventure Awaits. Located above Palm Springs and Palm Desert, Living Free Animal Sanctuary is nestled high in the San Jacinto Mountains.  We’re just 10 minutes ’round the bend from Idyllwild, California, known for its natural beauty and thriving artistic community. We’re a quick, scenic 45-minute drive up from Palm Springs or Palm Desert and, though we’re biased, we think it’s an amazing way to spend an afternoon. Visit us today!

The town of Idyllwild has always been known as a stomping ground for artists, musicians, hikers, rock climbers and bikers who are drawn to this little enclave. The Pacific Crest Trail runs right through Main Street. Then there’s Idyllwild Arts Academy, the Art Alliance, the Rotary Club, and Astro Camp.

It is home to the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema and the world-famous Jazz In The Pines Festival that features over two dozen jazz, blues and R&B bands benefiting Idyllwild Arts.

Located on Living Free’s 154 acres — three rescued mustangs, three rescued burros and two other horses (who happen to be beautiful and bossy – they totally run the show around here).

War Horse Creek: Equine-Assisted Therapy for Veterans is an initiative designed to provide life skills training, education and career guidance for U.S. Veterans. The program’s focus will be on post-traumatic growth, helping men and women who have served our country reintegrate into the civilian world.

We are happy to show you around the property. Just check in at the Visitor’s Center once you arrive.
