In May 2020, a large husky was found roaming around Humber Park, a popular San Bernardino National Forest trailhead. He was taken in by ARF of Idyllwild, a foster program for rescue and stray animals. However, ARF could not find anyone willing to foster such a large dog who was a potential escape artist. That is when Living Free stepped in to help. We welcomed the dog into our care and named him Sokka.

The kennel staff quickly discovered that Sokka was a very silly dog. He loved playing and was especially good at pouncing on toys that were thrown for him. He was very athletic and seemed to want to keep walking long after most dogs would be tired.

Sokka easily became a favorite among the staff. His good nature, happy personality, and big husky smile would brighten anyone’s day. It was only a matter of time before he would get adopted.

On July 17, 2020, Sokka was adopted by Joel Fernandez of Long Beach. Joel was excited by Sokka’s energy and charisma. He told the staff he planned to take Sokka on many adventures – which, it turns out, is exactly what he did.

Joel and Sokka are an active duo. Joel reports that he and Sokka are enjoying bike rides and trips to the park. They take walks everyday exploring the neighborhood. Together they also love going on hiking trips with friends and other dogs. They have especially had fun taking trips up to Big Bear for hikes.

Joel shared, “Sokka is a friendly, energetic dog that has brought us love and happiness.  We are so glad we could bring him home to be part of our lives.”

Joel has given Sokka the exact thing he needed to thrive: A companion with whom he could explore the world. Thank you, Joel, for adopting Sokka and giving him the loving home, he deserves.
