The “Man O’War Project” is the first equine-assisted therapy program to break down barriers and fund a study to examine the effectiveness of equine-assisted therapy in treating veterans with PTSD. Study participants took part in an 8-week program at the Bergen Equestrian Center in Leonia, New Jersey and results were tracked over a three-year period. Participants were tested through MRIs of the brain, before and after the program.
The results are astounding. Actual proof that equine-assisted treatment (EAT) results in brain-based changes that may increase an individual’s capacity to enjoy life despite facing traumas and war adversities.
This is powerful news for programs like ours here at War Horse Creek. The data helps support something we’ve known for a long time: The horse/human connection is profound and can make a huge difference in the lives of both people and horses.
A heartfelt thank you to the Columbia University team for dedicating their resources, time and energy to this much-needed effort. More lives will be saved as a result.
