Volunteer

Be the reason a rescue finds hope.

At Living Free Animal Sanctuary, volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re walking a shy dog for the first time, comforting a senior cat, mucking a stall, or helping out at events, every moment you give creates real change—for animals and for people.

This isn’t just about donating time. It’s about becoming part of a community where lives begin again. It’s about finding connection, purpose, and joy through service.

No matter your background or experience, there’s a place for you here. When you volunteer at Living Free, you’re not just helping—we promise: you’ll be transformed too.

Join a Work Party

Want to roll up your sleeves and make a big impact in just one day? Our Work Parties are special one-off volunteer days where we tackle meaningful projects together.

Whether we’re building new horse shelters, painting interiors, grooming dogs, or transforming our grounds with landscaping, your helping hands bring real change to the sanctuary. It’s fun, community-driven, and a powerful way to be part of something tangible.

Socialize & Connect

Our animals thrive on love—and volunteers like you make that possible every single day.

Whether you’re gently encouraging a shy cat to come out of their shell, walking a dog who’s learning to trust, or grooming one of our beloved horses, your presence helps them heal.

Socializing animals is an essential part of preparing them for their forever homes—and it’s one of the most rewarding ways to give back.

Support Events

From our annual Hoedown to local adoption fairs and fundraisers, our events are filled with energy, connection, and purpose.

Volunteers help us bring these moments to life—greeting guests, setting up, sharing our mission, and more.

Events are not just in Idyllwild, but also in the Coachella Valley, Hemet, and Temecula, so even if you're not nearby, there's a way to get involved and represent Living Free in your community.
